The new Premium Learning Space Building at Deakin University will create a modern and innovative learning centre. The building geometric shape, curved façade profile and open-planned floors presented a number of interesting engineering challenges.

By implementing full building integrated modelling (BIM) technology, Van der meer made this unique building possible, and ensured smooth co-ordination with the design team, contractor and fabricator. To overcome the structural engineering challenges, van der Meer performed 3D modelling and finite element analysis to understand complexities from the changing geometric profile, designed custom steel connections and found innovative solutions to achieve the architectural design.

This building achieved green star rating for the use of environmental sustainable materials. All steel including structure and façade framing is Australian made. Design was delivered by local consulting firms in Victoria.
